How to Get Started

To foster theme loop development, Lake Champlain Bikeways is available to work with interested communities, businesses, and individuals. At this stage, our focus is on counties adjacent to Lake Champlain. Communities and businesses in those counties are invited to tap into information generated by Lake Champlain Bikeways and to obtain technical assistance in developing theme loops.

Staff Assistance
To begin the process, Lake Champlain Bikeways will meet with your community to introduce bicycle theme loops. Then, throughout a process as defined by your community, we can help implement the checklist of steps mentioned on the previous page. Depending on your individual needs, we can play a major or minor role.

Workshops
We offer workshops for businesses and communities on being bicycle-friendly. For example, Lake Champlain Bikeways has conducted a series of workshops throughout the Champlain Valley with the hospitality industry.

Decals
To help bicycle-friendly businesses promote themselves to touring cyclists, Lake Champlain Bikeways developed a decal informing customers and visitors that your business or organization is bicycle-friendly. Decals are available for free.

Small Grants
Finally, Lake Champlain Bikeways has secured funds for small grants for bicycle enhancements along theme loops.

Through this effort, Lake Champlain Bikeways is eager to provide useful services in response to requests made by communities, cyclists, preservationists, tourism professionals, and businesses to communicate ideas, concerns, and opportunities related to theme loop development of the Lake Champlain Bikeways network. Once a theme loop is established and considered "open for business," Lake Champlain Bikeways will promote the loop through its information clearinghouse and web site.
